Bhojpur Police, Bihar Police

Bhojpur district is one of the thirty eight districts of Bihar state. Ara is the police headquarters of Bhojpur district headed by a Superintendent of Police (IPS) officer. Ara also has a mounted military police camp. Bhojpur district came into existence in 1972. Earlier it was a part of Shahabad district. The district was named "Bhojpur" after the great Parmar king Bhoj as most of the early inhabitants were Rajput rulers of the Parmar dynasty then called Ujjainia. One of the epicenters of the 1857 rebellion, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, a group of 183 British civilians and 50 Indian soldiers were besieged at the Little House in Ara by a band of 2500–3,000 armed soldiers and about 8000 others. .
