জাকির নায়েক নামেই পরিচিত সারা বিশ্বে। কিন্তু তার আসল নাম জাকির আব্দুল করিম নায়েক। তিনি একজন ভারতীয় ইসলামী চিন্তাবিদ, বক্তা ও লেখক। ইসলাম ও তুলনামূলক ধর্মতত্ত্ব বিষয়ে কাজ করেন জাকির। পেশাগত জীবনে তিনি একজন ডাক্তার। শল্যচিকিৎসায় (সার্জারি) ডিগ্রি অর্জন করলেও ১৯৯১ সাল থেকে তিনি ইসলাম ধর্ম প্রচারে মনোনিবেশ করেছেন।

জাকির আবদুল করিম নায়েক ১৮ অক্টোবর ১৯৬৫ সালে ভারতের মুম্বাইয়ে জন্ম গ্রহণ করেন। তিনি মুম্বাইয়ের সেন্ট পিটার্স হাই স্কুলের ছাত্র ছিলেন। তারপর তিনি কিশিনচাঁদ চেল্লারাম কলেজে ভর্তি হন। তিনি মেডিসিনের ওপর টোপিওয়ালা ন্যাশনাল মেডিকেল কলেজ অ্যান্ড নাইর হসপিটালে ভর্তি হন। অতঃপর, তিনি ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ মুম্বাই থেকে ব্যাচেলর অফ মেডিসিন সার্জারি বা এমবিবিএস ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন।

জাকির নায়েক ইসলাম ধর্ম সম্পর্কিত অনেক বিষয়ে লেকচার দিয়েছেন ও বিতর্ক করেছেন। থমাস ব্লম হানসেন লিখেছেন যে, ডা. জাকিরের বিভিন্ন ভাষায় কুরআন ও হাদিস সাহিত্য মনে রাখার ভঙ্গি ও তার ধর্মপ্রচার কর্মকাণ্ড মুসলিমদের মাঝে তাকে ব্যাপকভাবে জনপ্রিয় করে তুলেছে। তার অন্যতম বিখ্যাত বিতর্ক হয় ২০০০ সালের এপ্রিলে ‘বিজ্ঞানের আলোয় কুরআন ও বাইবেল’ বিষয়ে শিকাগোতে উইলিয়াম ক্যাম্পবেলের সাথে।

তিনি বলেন, ‘ইসলাম একটি কার্যকারণ ও যুক্তির ধর্ম এবং কুরআনে বিজ্ঞান বিষয়ক প্রায় ১০০০ আয়াত আছে।’ সেখানে তিনি পশ্চিমা কনভার্টের সংখ্যা ব্যাখ্যা করেন। ডা. জাকিরের অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় থিম হল বিজ্ঞানের সূত্র দিয়ে কোরআনকে যাচাই করা। ২১ জানুয়ারি ২০০৬ ডা জাকির শ্রী শ্রী রবিসঙ্করের সাথে ‘ইসলাম ও হিন্দু ধর্মে ঈশ্বর’ বিষয়ে ব্যাঙ্গালোরে বিতর্ক করেন।


The identity of Dr. Zakir Naik

Known as Zakir Naik all over the world. But his real name is Zakir Abdul Karim Naik. He is an Indian Islamic thinker, speaker and author. Zakir works on Islam and comparative theology. In professional life he is a doctor. Despite having a surgery degree, he has been involved in the promotion of Islam since 1991.

Zakir Naik is the founder of a 'non-profit' organization called 'Islamic Research Foundation' which operates the Peace TV Network. Through his speech he analyzed the interpretation of the Quran and Hadith in relation to Islam. One of its strategies is to establish greater acceptance of Islam through comparative analysis of different religions.

Biography
Zakir Abdul Karim Nayak was born on October 18, 1965 in Mumbai, India. He was a student at St Peter's High School in Mumbai. He then attended Kishinchand Chellaram College. He was admitted to Topiwala National Medical College and Nair Hospital on Medicine. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine Surgery or MBBS degree from the University of Mumbai.

In 1991, Zakir started promoting Islamism and established the IRF. Dr. Zakir said he was inspired by Ahmed Didat, whom he met in 1987. Zakir is often called 'Didat Plus', which is the title given by Didat himself. He is also the founder of Islamic International School in Mumbai and United Islamic Aid.

He is described on the website of the Islamic Research Foundation as the patron and ideological driver of the Peace TV Network. His wife, Farhat Naik, works in the women's branch of the IRF.
